Bios

Denise Miller

Denise is an accomplished fitness/wellness veteran. She got her start as a personal trainer and held multiple certifications with the American Council of Exercise and the National Academy of Sports Medicine culminating later on in an advanced certification. She was also trained as a Medical Exercise Specialist giving her the ability to work with a post rehabilitative clientele as well. In 2001 she made the transition to pilates earning her mat and apparatus certifications through PhysicalMind* Institute and in 2004 she furthered her pilates training by receiving Instructor Certification with Power Pilates*.  She and her husband Paul are the owners of Pilates Connection.

Katie Cowart

Katie has danced professionally with the American Ballet Theater Studio Company, the Carolina Ballet Company and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. She studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts and received her BFA in dance from SUNY Purchase College in 2004.While training; she was introduced to pilates as a way to strengthen core muscles and increase flexibility. After experiencing the benefits herself and growing to love the work, she acquired her mat and apparatus certifications from Power Pilates in 2005.

Annie Doss

 

Annie holds a BFA in dance from Marymount Manhattan College. She also attended NYU`S Tisch School of the Arts where she began her pilates training in 1995. Annie has danced with Janis Brenner Dance Company, Randy James Dance Works, Mark Morris Dance Company, Kevin Wynn and Lala Productions. She has presented her own choreography at many venues including Bates Dance Festival and Westchester Broadway Theatre. She received her pilates certification from Power Pilates* in 2004 and is also a certified yoga instructor.

Jill Shapiro

Jill has been certified in the Authentic Pilates Method of Body Conditioning since 2001. She trained extensively with master teachers Romana Kryznowska, Ton Voight and Michael Fritze and worked at the Art of Control formerly in Mt. Kisco, New York before joining the Pilates Connection family in 2006. She has a background in ballet, jazz and modern dance and her masters degree in elementary education.

Liz Fareed

Liz began studying pilates in 1996 while performing with a modern dance company in Chicago. She was hooked immediately by the mental focus and the physical control that the practice demanded. Liz made the commitment to become a teacher and was certified in 2009 by Brooke Siler at re:Ab Pilates Studio in New york. Liz graduated from The Boston Conservatory with a BFA in dance and has performed and taught ballet and modern dance in New England, Chicago and Westchester County, NY. Liz has continued her own practice, studying with master instructor Shari Berkowitz.

Michele Jongeneel

Michele is from Southern California where she received her BA of Fine Arts in dance from California State University, Long Beach. It was there that she was first introduced to the pilates method in the department's fully equipped studio. Her sister, who was certified by Romana Kryzanowska, opened an authentic studio where Michele made the comittment to become a pilates teacher herself. She received her 700 hour classical pilates certification with Brooke Siler at re:Ab Pilates Studio in New York in 2007 and has been teaching since then. Michele received her initial classical instruction from master instructor Mejo Wiggins and Carolyn Driscoll. Besides Pilates Connection , she teaches at re:Ab and Chelsea Piers Sports Center in NYC. Michele is a professional dancer in NYC and is also a certified Jivamukti Yoga teacher.

Andy Sherwood

Andy graduated from New York University in 2000 with a BFA. She has been studying pilates for ten years and has trained at prestigious pilates studios in New York, Los Angeles and Hawaii including Power Pilates, The Pilates Institute and Pilates of Hawaii. She is certified by the Pilates Method Alliance and works with a clientele that covers high profile athletes as well as clients with rehabilitative requirements. She divides her time between teaching at our studio and re:Ab Pilates in NYC, and Hawaii, where she runs her Aloha Wellness Retreat programs January through March. Andy also studies holistic healing, nutrition and aromatherapy.
